One of the key features of Iceland’s fishing industry is its focus on minimizing waste and making use of the entire catch. In recent years, the production of alternative marine products and byproducts has grown significantly. While in many North Atlantic fisheries, parts of the cod such as the head, gut, and bones are typically discarded, Icelandic fisheries have found ways to add value to these by-products, including frozen skins, offcuts, and mince. This has been made possible through advancements in processing, handling, and research aimed at developing new products from parts that were once considered waste. Additionally, we offer a range of standard products from various fish species found in Icelandic waters, including silver smelt, saithe, redfish, ling, and others.
